Wimbledon Adopts Video Replay System This Season.

Wimbledon court with replay technology

Wimbledon will follow the US and Australian Opens in utilizing replay systems.

Video review technology are set to arrive at Wimbledon this year.

Athletes are granted the option to question specific calls made by the official, echoing the protocol already in operation at both the American Grand Slam and the Australian Open.

This innovation is slated for use on Centre Court and Court One throughout the tournament and on the other four show courts when they are hosting singles matches.

This development comes just a year after the AELTC rolled out electronic line calling, which terminated the longstanding tradition of line officials.

What Can Be Reviewed?

Competitors cannot to challenge the call of the electronic line calling, but they can ask for the umpire to review specific decisions, including:

  • Whether a ball has bounced twice.
  • If a shot touched an opponent's racquet or person during play.
  • Potential interference at the conclusion of a rally.

Importantly, there will be no limit on the amount of challenges a player can request.

A Recent Example

An illustrative example took place in Indian Wells recently, where a top player used the review system against his opponent.

The British player admitted it was a tough call for the umpire, but believed his rival had "used the regulations quite well."

The umpire watched a video and ruled the player was guilty of interference, granting the rally to his opponent.

Wider Implementation

This technology are not new for major tournaments. It was adopted at the US Open for two years and the Australian Open since 2025.

Furthermore, it is increasingly prevalent on the WTA circuit, and by the coming year the ATP circuit plans to have video reviews implemented at all of its events.

Other Changes

A further change at Wimbledon this year will be the introduction of visual indicators on displays to complement the audio calls from the electronic line calling system.

This solves situations where spectators have occasionally been unsure whether a ball was out or in.

Finally, with exactly a century of days remaining until the beginning of the Championships, organizers have further announced an expansion in daily attendance at the qualifiers in the qualifying venue.
